Parts of a Refrigerator

You won’t find too many houses that do not feature a refrigerator in the kitchen. It’s been a must-have kitchen appliance for several years now. A refrigerator stores your food at the right temperature, in order to reduce spoilage and limit harmful bacteria. The concept of refrigeration works by moving the warmth from the inside of the appliance to the exterior, by relying on principles of condensation and evaporation.

The standard parts of a refrigerator are below. For questions or service call Patriot Appliance Repair:

Compressor

A refrigerator compressor is a combo of a motor and a pump, and it is need for circulation of refrigerant throughout the cooling system.
The compressor is an integral piece of a refrigerator. Homeowners should call on a professional service if the compressor isn’t working.

Condenser

A condenser is located on the rear exterior wall of the appliance and is there to release the heat built-up from within the refrigerator out to the surrounding air.

Evaporator

A refrigerator evaporator is housed on the inside of a refrigerator where absorbs warmth trapped inside of it, effectively reducing the temperature inside the appliance.

Right when an evaporator stops working, it’s time to call a professional. You should not wait too long.

Expansion Device

Liquid refrigerant is transferred within a capillary tube which acts as an expansion device as it cools the gas inside, thereby transforming it back into a liquid.

Thermostat

The refrigerator thermostat regulates the current temperature within a refrigerator, starting a new cooling period when appropriate.

A thermostat inside of a refrigerator is very prone to breaking. Troubleshoot and call a repairman in Old Bridge for service right after a problem happens.

How Does Refrigeration Work?

1. When the temperature in the interior of a refrigerator goes above the set point sensors signal the compressor to begin, and then the next cooling period begins. The unit draws in the cool liquid refrigerant, pressurizes and condenses the refrigerant, and raises the temperature, turning it into a gas form.

2. The compressor unit pushes the warm gas towards the condenser coils on the rear of the appliance, where it comes into contact with the lower temperature in the kitchen and returns to a liquified state.

3. The cool refrigerant continues its journey towards the refrigerator evaporator, traveling through the coils on the inside of the refrigerator and freezer compartment.

4. The liquid absorbs the heated air from inside the refrigerator, thereby lowering the temperature back to the correct set point.

5. The coolant then will evaporate, and will return back into a gas form, and returns to the compressor to then continue the cycle.

Refrigeration technology is often used in a number of applications and large appliances, this includes heat pumps, AC units, refrigerators and residential freezers. By contracting warmth from one location and then relocating it to somewhere else the cycle of refrigeration will help cooling your house, provides a perfect space for perishable food, and helps with manufacturing and storage of several different common products and goods.
